It is one of the wettest places in the world.The most compelling village of Mawsynram is situated 61 kms south of Shillong and trounces Cherrapunjee by a slight margin. It is a must-visit place for nature lovers and one of the best places for a weekend trip. The 'Maw' in Mawsynram is a Khasi word meaning 'stone'. It represents the unique megaliths unearthed in the Khasi Hill area.
This amazing village is highly recognized for its massive shape of a stalagmite that looks like the shape of a 'Shivling'. It is situated in the East Khasi Hill district of Meghalaya and is 1400 m above sea level. It receives heavy rains.

It is also the most wonderful maze of caves in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
