Thattekad Bird Sanctuary
Located in the Kothamangalam Taluk of Ernakulam district on the northern bank of the Periyar River, Thattekad Bird Sanctuary is covered over 25 km sq. This amazing place was discovered by Dr. Salim Ali in 1930 and became the richest bird habitat in peninsular India. You will see a range of tropical deciduous and evergreen trees that is home to birds. If you are a bird lover, then this is the best place to visit. The birds include Indian Pitta, Orange-Headed Thrush, Large-Billed Leaf-Warbler, Jerdon's Nightjar, Indian Cuckoo, Oriental Darter, Cormorants, Whiskered Terns, Collared Scops Owl, Ceylon Frogmouth, Pompadour Green Pigeon and Yellow-Browed Bulbuls.
